Enjoy the grounds
Gavin Astor House Nursing Home is tucked away in a wooded setting surrounded by trees, overlooking open fields and the grassed areas of the Royal British Legion Village.
The paved ‘woodland walkway’ surrounding the building enables wheelchair users to get out and about to enjoy the various colours and textures of the trees that shelter the building. The several seating areas along the route offers residents and visitors the opportunity to stop off to chat while sharing the beautiful surroundings.
Immediately outside the Nursing Home, courtyard gardens with well-tended raised flowerbeds enable residents to enjoy the plants on display, or even do their own bit of gardening.
The planned ‘sensory’ garden with aromatic plants and herbs will enable those with impaired sight to enjoy the display through smell and touch. Wherever you look there are bird tables, and many of our residents enjoy attracting a range of wildlife including birds, butterflies, squirrels and hedgehogs. Our resident family of guinea pigs enjoy being petted, and residents are welcome to stroke them – as well as to help with feeding and cleaning them out!
